Whizzper is an IM client developed with Java technology to be installed in a mobile phone. To put it plainly, it's something you download to your phone which allows you to IM your buddies, just as you are used to doing from your computer. The difference is you don't need your computer. You can do it from anywhere! And even better, you can consolidate all of your mobile communication in Whizzper, saving a ton of money.
Basically, you must have a phone capable of running Java mobile applications and using an Internet connection. Most phones made since 2001 fulfill these requirements. For our technical users, here are the specs:

Data Network
Have a go. If you experience any type of problem, let us know and we will help you make Whizzper to work on your phone. See also our list of terminals to see if we've included specific information on your phone.
No! Whizzper is free for the promotional trial period. You only pay for what it costs to navigate over the internet. Check out the flat rates your operator offers. Besides, navigating over an internet connection is loads cheaper than navigating with a WAP connection. You'll thank us later.
Whizzper is simple to download via WAP.
Whizzper will usually be filed in the Applications or Java Applications folder that can be reached from the main menu of your phone. The phone will sometimes ask you during the installation process where you wish to save Whizpper or notify you of where it will be saved.
The Basic version is a no frills version which can run on the full spectrum of terminals on the market. All of the necessary IM functionality is included. See our feature list for more details.
Once we're all connected and used to using Whizzper, more and more cool multimedia options and brand specific customised versions will become available so you can express your personal tastes with your mobile IM application.
In general, for a GPRS connection to internet, you can use two different types of APN (Access Point Network):
For a correct working of whizzper we recommend using the "Pure Internet APN" , which also happens to be a cheaper connection. (What is an APN? Have a look on Wikipedia.)
To help you get the right settings we have made a settings page. Select your manufacturer or our service provider, and make sure to download and activate the correct settings for your phone.
This error message usually indicates that your mobile does not meet the minimum requirements to run Whizzper. Please check your mobile phone capabilities against these or check our Wizard to see if we've listed any peculiarities about your terminal. We'd be happy to help out if you get desperate. Send us info on your phone model and the error message you receive.
Certain terminals, such as the Sharp 770sh, require that the old version of Whizzper be removed before installing a new version. If you receive an error message similar to the one cited, erase your current version of Whizzper and reinstall the new version. Be sure to take note of your Whizzper ID and Password. You'll need them to log back in to Whizzper. Remember, when in doubt, contact us either by Email or in the Forum. Always include your phone model and the error message you receive.
This is caused by a corrupt file download. Remove the Whizzper application from your phone and redownload Whizzper. Let us know the details if the problem persists. Include phone model and exact error message.
Let us know your mobile phone make and model and we will be in contact with you personally via SMS to promptly resolve your mobile phone's issue with Whizzper.
Try our settings page, and if that doesn't help, please contact your service provider.
If you have settings that we don't have on our settings page, please provide us with information. We would really appreciate it and it would encourage friends with these phones to get in on using Whizzper!
Starting from the point where you have already downloaded and installed Whizzper, but perhaps you are unable to initialise:
If you are still having problems with your Nokia S40 2.0 model of phone, please make sure that you have entered all the required information into the APN setting, concerning proxy's/users/passwords/port etc.
This is a Java security feature. During the Whizzper installation some of the mobiles default to “always ask” for data network access while other mobiles default to only asking the first time. In any case your mobile should have in the menu options under Java settings an option to define for Whizzper your preferred data network access security preference. We recommend that this be set to only ask the first time. This will then allow Whizzper to run only asking the first time when initiating the Whizzper session.
At times the SMS interconnectivity fails for reasons outside of our control. Send us a note and we will “hand” deliver your temporary password via SMS. Don’t forget to include your complete mobile phone number, identify the country in which your mobile service contract exists and let us know which username you have chosen for Whizzper.
Whizzper does take a few seconds when starting your messaging session to connect to the fixed IM services. You should receive a notification indicating that Whizzper has connected to your given IM fixed service. At times these services experience connection delays. If you're convinced sufficient time has elapsed open the Whizzper menu to see if the " Reconnect" option is available. It may be that the connection was lost or never made to your fixed IM service provider.
If you see this error, you most likely have the wrong settings configured on your phone. Please see this topic.
If you see this error, you're phone is not successfully establishing an internet connection. You either have the wrong settings configured on your phone. In this case please see this topic. Or there may be a problem within the mobile operator data network. Try to reconnect some minutes later, (i.e. 15 min). You can exit the Whizzper application by pushing the red button or end button. The mobile operators are working hard to improve the mobile data networks, but for now they are still fairly unreliable. You may witness performance constraints during the busiest hours of the day.

Most frequently we find this is caused by general data network performance problems with your mobile operator. If you have another internet application, you can try to see if the performance problem exists. You will then know whether the problem is specific to Whizzper or if it is a general data network problem related to your mobile operator. For Whizzper specific performance problems our team is monitoring the service 24x7 and receive alarms of system issues. We also highly appreciate your comments on performance issues.
This could be caused by memory limitations on your mobile phone. Please try reducing the number of conversations open at one time to 3 and consider reducing the number of buddies to no more than 50. If you can’t continue use the red “hang-up” button to exit the application. As a last resort turn the phone off and on again. Please let us know if these problems are recurring.
Some mobiles are very limited on the amount of memory they have available. If your mobile is experiencing performance or blocking problems, we would recommend limiting the number of buddies you have to 50 or less and limiting the number of open conversations you have to 3 or less. Other options include upgrading your mobile with additional memory or purchasing a new mobile model with more memory. Newer model phones have been tested with Whizzper and can support hundreds of buddies and numerous concurrent conversations without any performance degradation.
Any error message containing a reference to "RMS" may indicate that your phone's internal memory has reached or is reaching its capacity. Try freeing up some space by erasing unnecessary applications or data. Keeping your phone's memory light is always a good idea to keep Whizzper performing at its best.
Remember that once you have accepted an invitation from a buddy to be aware of your status you must ask them in return to allow you to be aware of their status. Highlight the buddy in question, open the Whizzper menu, select the "Buddies" option and then select the "Authorize" option.
Whizzper was designed to allow you easy access to your phonebook while Inviting a Friend. However, a few mobiles do not offer phonebook access from Java. You'll have to key in your friend's mobile the old fashioned way. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please let us know the make and model of any mobile that does not offer you access to your mobile phonebook from within Whizzper and we will escalate the problem to the given mobile phone manufacturer. Check the Phone Specific listings to see if your terminal has limitations with respect to accessing the phonebook.
Let us know where you are connecting from and which language you would like to use Whizzper in and we will see what can be done.
If you have a phone that works with Whizzper, and it's not in our overview, please let us know! We really appreciate it and it means that friends with these phones can get in on using Whizzper!
